Yesterday I was lucky enough to attend a food styling and photography workshop with Michelle Crawford, from Hugo & Elsa in the most gorgeous surroundings at The Black Hen. It was lovely to catch up with Michelle again - we've met before at a couple of different workshops over the years, and it was wonderful to be taught some great tricks and tips from her this time around. There were new people to meet and some fabulous produce and props to play with. We were treated to a delicious lunch and dessert - but held off on the diving in proper (not easy!) until we had styled and photographed the dishes, using the lessons learnt earlier in the morning. Also, if you look very carefully at some of the behind-the-scenes shots above, you might just see our assistant Glen Campbell helping us with some light blocking. He did a fantastic job.
We focused (pardon the pun) on iPhone photography - all photos above were taken with my iPhone on the day. I'm constantly surprised at the great quality you can now get with a phone camera - it's a novelty that is yet to wear off for me.
I absolutely adore the space that Julie has made, not just in the shop itself, but upstairs in the workshop area. It's completely stunning. If you get a chance to attend one of the workshops she hosts, I can thoroughly recommend the opportunity! Honestly, I'd move in today if Julie would let me (don't worry, Julie - I won't, but I'm sorely tempted!)
Massive, massive thanks to Michelle for travelling all that way to spend time with us, and for generously sharing your knowledge and skills in such a warm way; and of course, massive, massive thanks to Julie for hosting us all in that incredible space you have created!
