I don't know about you, but sometimes just as you're wondering about the state of the world and how the heck we got to the stage we have (we've come so far on so many things and yet still have so freaking far to go!) before you know it, a little something crosses your path and reminds you that not everything is horrid and there are ordinary but great people who do great things simply because they care enough to do so.
Firstly, the amazing Cath of My Bearded Pigeon has been selling very rad (did I just say rad? I think I did!) "Love is Love" rainbow pins over the past couple of weeks. Not only do they look awesome (and apparently make for very decent earrings) but $5 from every pin sold goes to Twenty10 who offer support to young LGBTQI+ people. So far, donations via the pins bought have raised $10,000. I mean, that's just the absolute best, right? You can pre-order (demand has seriously gone through the roof) your pin here for $12.95 plus postage. Please be patient while they work through those orders to get those brilliant pins out to everyone. Mine arrived the other day and I love it!
Finally, I got a message yesterday from the also amazing Nina, giving me a heads up about something really special she has decided to become involved in. She wanted to know if I was keen as well. And I am (as mustard). The also also amazing Nic from Fox and Kin has decided enough is enough and it's time to spread some rainbow love about the place a little. She's offering free mini photography couples sessions for all her LGBTQI+ friends from now on until our laws change. There are a number of other photographers across the country who have hopped aboard to show their support (including the also also also awesome Sophie; Tassie represent!) and I'm incredibly honoured to be taking part. If you're a NW Coast Tasmanian who is part of the LGBTQI+ community and would like to participate, please shoot me through an email via firstname.lastname@example.org or click the link at the end of this post and we'll have a chat!
