Recently, Kat from Big Tease Popup Parlour and myself joined forces (how Star Wars of us!) to create Girl Next Door Retro Portraits. We had our first sessions on the 21st (after a couple of literal rain checks - let's face it, a Tasmanian summer doesn't really start until mid-January) and we had an absolute blast doing them! Because it was such a lovely way to spend a day, I wanted to share some behind the scenes photos here today. There were lovely nibbles to eat and bubbles to drink, an impromptu shoot with Kat after our last session and of course, plenty of giggles to be had ...
Both Kat and myself are hoping that we can help people to feel a bit more confident about their true beauty - yes, you get full hair and make up, retro props and pretty dresses to wear but the photographs won't be photoshopped to all get-out (that's never really been my style, tbh) - some of us have freckles, and that's ok! Not all of us have perfect teeth and that's ok too. The average-sized woman in Australia is apparently around a size sixteen these days, and lots of us are uh ... let's say above average in that regard! (I'm really now just pointing out all the things about myself I'm the most self conscious of, so I'll stop there!) None of us are perfect and all of us have insecurities about our appearance - but all of us are beautiful, unique souls and all of us have the right to feel good about ourselves, even our imperfect selves. The photographs and the hair and the makeup and the accessories are all important for the retro look at Girl Next Door, but what we hope you feel after your session is a little bit spoiled and a little bit better about who you are, as well as what you look like. We hope that you recognise yourself when you see your photos - that you look like yourself, just a more fancy, retro version!
Our other big news is that we've locked in the date for our next set of sessions: Saturday March 11, 2017. Not to toot our own horn/s, but we've already had several enquiries for this next session before the date was officially locked in, so it's best to book in quickly! We'd particularly like to encourage the mothers and daughters out there to take advantage of this session date - it's the perfect opportunity to give a lovely gift for Mother's Day (and afterwards you have the option to purchase extra prints and products from your private, online gallery - it's the gift that keeps on giving!) Visit our FB page (linked at the top of this post) and send us a message there to register your interest and to keep yourself updated as we release more details.
