This social media photography session for Lara of Billie Hardy Creative has been a long time in the making. Lara originally asked me if I could do some photography for her quite a while ago, but life and whatnot prevented us from being able to lock in a suitable timeframe - until a few months ago, that is! If you're a local, you'll no doubt have seen Lara's work, not only in homewares shops and markets around the state, but you may also be familiar with her graphic design and brand identity work as well.
We met together, discussed Lara's vision for the feel and look of the photos and I created an album of proofs for her to check out. From here we actually revised the entire overall look; we'd started out with a white background but didn't quite feel it was the right fit. It was a bit too minimalistic and the pieces kind of got a little "lost". We went in the opposite direction, with a darker, more earthy feel punctuated by green foliage and the blue of Lara's incredibly beautiful pencil pouch. Lara's work has an affinity with the natural and the bohemian, and that's what we aimed to create here for her.
I've always been a fan of Lara's pieces - and after having worked with them for this session, holding them in my hands, getting up close and personal with them each time I changed a cushion cover - I'm even more so. I love that the range of cushion covers are made from 100% organic canvas and the inserts are filled with 100% PET fibre, with each one of those saving around 5 water bottles from landfill. Her cards and prints are 100% post consumer waste recycled stock. As for the products themselves? I'm a bit crazy about those freedom clutches - the La Luna is my particular favourite. Head over here to buy something for yourself or a loved one. And finally, just because it's something close to my own heart, you might like to know that a portion of each of her illustration sales goes to Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary here in Tasmania. You might also like to spend some time checking out her Instagram and Facebook page.
Thanks so much for that original email asking if I could do some photography for you, Lara - I so enjoyed every part of working with you on it! xx
