Earlier this month I was asked by Prue at Under the Oak to come along and get some shots of the shop and gallery space - and I have to tell you, the light in that place is a bit of a photographer's dream! A lovely sunny summer's day doesn't hurt either.
What I love about this place is the focus on Tasmanian art, craft and design. We have some incredibly talented artists in this state and it's great to see that all in the one spot. Designers hire a space in the store, it gives them more time to create as they don't have to go through the manning of a stall at a local market every week or month or so. Don't get me wrong - I loves a local market but I'm aware of how much work goes into those things, for the managers and the stallholders - not everyone can get the time to do so on a regular basis. To me, this seems like a good solution to that problem.
My only dilemma, as I wandered around with my camera, is that I think I found about eleventy-frillion things I'd like to buy just for myself. I spotted quite a few bits and bobs that I know will be great for future birthday gifts for others, but I can tell you right now, I doubt I'll go shopping here for someone else without walking away with a little something-something for me at the same time!
The gallery and gift shop is at 2/39 Reibey Street, Ulverstone - very handily located near the local Woollies supermarket. Keep updated by checking out the Facebook page as well as the website linked above.
Thanks again, Prue for letting me loose in the shop - it's a lovely space!
Are you a local business that would like me to take photos of your space? It's a great opportunity to update your Facebook and website! Send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org or send me a message here.
