Please note: Violet + Rose gifted the product in this post for me to feature as their brand rep. All opinions are genuine and are my own.
Not so long ago, Jo from Violet + Rose announced via Instagram (follow her @violet_and_rose) that she was looking for a brand rep to help create a bit of buzz about her beautiful candles. When I saw her post, I thought hey! I could give that a crack! So I tagged a couple of my favourite shots for her to check out and lo and behold, myself and Bianca Virtue were chosen. (You can see Bianca's work here - it's amazing, and follow her on IG @biancavirtue_)
Every now and again I'll be sharing some of the shots I've taken for Jo, and a bit of info about the candles as well - some of which will be appearing on IG too. (Don't worry, I'm not going down the road of sponsored post after sponsored post on this blog, that's definitely not my intention. And I hope I'm clear that while Jo has given me these beautiful candles, the views clumsily presented by myself on these kinds of posts are entirely my own.)
So. Now that official business is out of the way - what about the candle? The first one Jo sent me arrived just after the start of third term, when I had hurt my neck (elevate your laptops!) In her note to me, Jo said that she called this her happy candle. It's infused with Ylang Ylang, Rose Geranium and Petitgrain. Jo explained that "All of these essential oils have properties that relieve anxiety and promote a general feeling of happiness." Let's face it - that happy candle couldn't have come at a better time, if I ever needed a bit of help easing anxiety, this was it!
The first thing I noticed when I popped open (and there is a very satisfying 'pop' when you remove the lid) the vintage Fowlers Vacola jar the candle comes in was, of course, the perfume. Jo takes a lot of time to consider the blending of different scents and they are completely unique. I really liked being able to identify each part of the blend (and if that makes me a bit of a scent nerd, I don't care), and I can't even tell you how beautiful it is when these combine once you light the candle. You can read more about her blends here. In the past I've bought many a commercially made scented candle. Never again. Nope. No way, no how. They just don't compare. I find the perfume rather invasive from those commercially-created candles (ooh, alliteration!) Jo's candles are a different thing altogether - I found that the perfume lingered afterwards, but not in an aggressive-punch-you-in-the-face way. It's much more pleasant than that. (And really, a candle shouldn't punch you in the face. That's just bad manners.)
Jo's soy wax candles are hand-poured and this particular one has a burn time of 100 hours. If you're interested in buying one of her artisan candles, check out the Violet + Rose Etsy store and follow the Facebook page for regular updates as well.
Jo: thanks so much for sending out this candle when you did - it was a very bright spot in a tricky week! x
