There's something great about the light around 3pm on a sunny winter's afternoon. Soft and dappled, warm and welcoming. So many people assume winter in Tasmania is freezing. In the south? Yes - at least, in my experience it was when I lived there! Mind you, waking up to see Mt Wellington shrouded in snow was always a fairly decent payoff for those bracing, icy winds bearing down from frosty southern slopes. If it's going to be that cold, there may as well be snow to play in.
Up here on the north-west coast it's a tad milder though and our winter temperatures are believe it or not, bearable. Just cool enough to encourage lots of wooly layers; hats, scarves, gloves. All to be ritually placed over warm jumpers and under toasty coats before embarking on outdoor adventures. Just cool enough to feel like it's still winter but not to take your breath away in icy jabs.
I promised myself I would spend the first part of the holidays doing stuff just for me - things I love that have been neglected during term time. I've got plans to go and take some photos with my Mum and her camera club friend; ages ago (months and months) I started re-reading this book - and now I'm nearly finished. Then I'll be moving on to this one that I had hoped to get to in the summer holidays, but clearly didn't (it's just another on my very long list right now - but I'd so much rather have a long list of books I want to read than a shorter list of books I want to read, wouldn't you?)
I have lots of copies of this magazine and this one to catch up on. Last weekend I watched this series again and I'm currently deciding exactly what I want to watch on the box these holidays. If you have any recommendations, let me know! I might do some op-shopping and I want to fill the freezer with lots of lunches before next term. I like this recipe a lot and I can get quite a few meals out of it to stash away for those weekdays when I can't be bothered cooking. I don't entirely know why, but I've had a hankering lately for this old-school dessert. I haven't made one in forever and I'm thinking it might just be time. Yum.
What are you making, watching, reading, doing? (Not that I'm nosy or anything. Ok, I'm a little bit nosy.)
