Chateau de Chambord is crazy big, I tells you. It's show off-y and proud of it. It says, you want a mighty big castle? I'll give you a mighty big castle. It's a mix of French medieval and classical Renaissance styles and a particular highlight is the double helix staircase. The whole place is pretty awe-inspiring, which is apt because that was exactly how it was intended to be. Not too shabby for a hunting lodge hey, Francis I? Just perfect for that little getaway.
When I posted a couple of Instagrams just after our visit, I mentioned the fact that I think I must have said "Wow!" about eleventy-frillion times. It's the kind of place you find yourself wandering around, mouth agape (hopefully not drooling too much.) It's truly mind-boggling how big it is. (Did I mention the place is huge?)
We also visited Chateau Chenonceau (which, personally was my favourite of the two) and I'm doing a separate post for that one later.
Have a look at my posts from Paris here and here, and my post from Normandy and Brittany here if you're interested.
